Police said late Tuesday night that a 23-year-old man would be charged in the death of his 22-year-old girlfriend, who disappeared after last being seen at a Northern Liberties nightclub. Gina Schickling of Philadelphia was last seen June 30 at a club called The Fire at 412 W. Girard Ave. A police source said she was there with her boyfriend. Gina Schickling’s boyfriend made a statement to investigators, a police source said.
The police source said the couple went to the boyfriend’s home and got into an argument. He allegedly then beat and stabbed her to death.
The boyfriend put Gina Schickling’s body in a trash bag and dumped it in North Jersey, the police source said.
Police Department spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore confirmed that a body had been found in New Jersey, a medical examiner in that state was preparing a report, and that charges would be filed.
Tom Schickling, Gina Schickling’s father, declined to comment.
On Facebook, Tom Schickling posted this statement: “Friends and family – Gina Schickling is dead. This is an unspeakable tragedy for our family. We deeply appreciate all of the prayers and all of the help with our efforts to find her. Please allow us time to grieve. We will post additional information shortly.”
